From the vibrant cities of Bath and Bristol, to sandy beaches of Devon and Cornwall, to the retro holiday resorts of Torquay, Weymouth and Western-super-mere, the southwest is rich and rewarding.

Few regions in Britain can boast such character; such a varied mix of people and landscapes – imagine rural fields, rugged cliffs, laid-back villages, medieval market towns, roman settlements and picturesque fishing villages. Spend a little time in each of it’s counties - Bristol, Gloucester, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall – and you’ll soon see the distinct character of each these neighbours.

This region can make for the most unusual of breaks - history, chill-out, city life and an adrenaline rush can easily be bundled into one neat few-hour round trip, weekend, or a few weeks.

Yes, this is the home of Stonehenge, the magnificent Bath Spa and quaint Coldswold villages. And yes, this is also the home of 700 miles of beautiful coastline, Devonshire hills, vast moorland, and lush countryside - whether you enjoy playing on land, sea, or in the air - this is the ultimate playground.

From the famous cream teas and coastal scenery of Devon (still one of our favourite family holiday spots), to the Celtic stronghold of Cornwall, the southwest has something for everyone; young or old, adventurous or not.

A favourite haunt for smugglers, surfers and second-home-owners alike, Cornwall, specifically, is enjoying something of a renaissance as a centre for culture, cuisine and the arts, especially thanks to thriving seaside towns such as Falmouth, St Ives and Newquay, and ground-breaking projects like the Eden Project near St Austell.

You‘d be foolish to visit this area without getting a lung-full of fresh air and allowing your heart beat that little bit faster. From surfing to sailing, mountain biking to microlighting or canoeing to coasteering, this area is perfect for a longer sports break.

Visiting for just a weekend? Well, no problem. This is an ideal place for a quick adreline rush, whether you want to go kitesurfing in Cornwall, 4x4 driving in Devon, diving in Dorset, mountain biking in Somerset, parascending in Wiltshire or canoeing in Gloucestershire.

The stunning and varied landscapes can challenge beginners and advanced skill levels alike and as tourism has really picked-up recently, decent accommodation options are easy to find, surf lodges, camp sites, hostels and B&B's are in abundance, if you book early (or if there’s a bunch of you, how about a nice countryside cottage?).

And, when the adventure's over for the day, you relax and recharge with a pint of local cider and some delicious local food...
